Life can bring challenges and obstacles that keep us from living lives of inner peace and freedom.

  • you might be suffering from depression, anxiety, or some other mental health issue;
  • you might be experiencing issues with a partner that is keeping your relationship stuck;
  • you might be having a hard time parenting your teenager or getting along as a family;
  • you may have lost someone close to you;
  • you may be living with chronic pain or debilitating ailments;
  • you may want to stop an unwanted behavior or addiction;
  • or you might be looking for a deeper purpose and meaning to your life.

 

Sometimes we get to these stuck points and don’t know where to turn.  We’ve used up all the coping strategies we know and we are now exhausted! Psychotherapy and counselling can help you to break through barriers and transform your life and relationships. Finding yourself in a safe and inviting counselling relationship with me will help you to explore new ways of thinking and behaving, as well as, allow you to be heard and understood. It can also be a place for couples and families to work through issues that are keeping them from living in harmony. There is nothing wrong with seeking counselling and it is usually quite rewarding.

First of all, in a counselling relationship with me, you will be treated like a human being.

 

You are not a diagnosis, a label, or a problem. You might have a diagnosis or problem of some kind, but it is only a small description of symptoms that does not describe you entirely. You are not a person needing to be fixed, but a person struggling to find the inner resources you already have! I know it doesn’t feel that way to you right now, or maybe it does, but that’s where I come in. I will help you to explore in depth who you are and who you want to be. I want to offer you a safe environment to explore, feel, express, and grow. We can certainly work with the symptoms with which you are struggling and find new ways of coping, but counselling and psychotherapy can also be extremely rich and rewarding growth experiences that often lead people to deeper places of understanding and acceptance.

 

I help my clients learn how to more fully experience themselves, accept who they are, and gain a better conscious awareness of their lives. It is not always easy to know how to listen to one’s self when there are so many other competing thoughts and motivations from outside forces. Finding comfort in one’s own skin, feeling confident, and trusting your self is a positive outcome of counselling and therapy. We are also relational beings who need to learn how to get our needs met as well as understand how to love and give to others without losing ourselves. It is this fine line that is not always easy to walk but essential to healthy living with others. In therapy with me you will have the opportunity to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, as well as your relationships, goals, and dreams. We may also explore your family of origin, your job, or your spiritual life, amongst others. Once a person can more fully experience and accept their way of being in the world, the easier to deal with the “problems” for which they seek therapy.

 

We are multifaceted people so therefore I use an integrative approach to psychotherapy. I pull mainly from Gestalt, person-centered, existential/humanistic, and psychodynamic theories. This includes many possible focal points in a therapeutic relationship and ultimately depends on the client’s needs, personality, and desires. Basically though, counselling is about developing a relationship that can help you to grow, change and explore that is safe, comfortable and encouraging. It will often be difficult and sometimes painful, but that is what leads to growth.
